Introduction

AquaBank® is the name given to a series of specialised rainwater storage and reuse systems, developed by Mittagong Concrete Products (MCP) for specific applications.

Australia is the world’s driest inhabited continent. Rainwater is a precious and scarce resource. Awareness of the need to make the most efficient use of our water resources is rapidly increasing in our society. State and Local Governments are requiring rainwater management programs to be incorporated into the design of urban developments. While the use of tanks for rainwater collection has long been part of the Australian rural scene, it is now becoming a part of the modern urban environment.

Collecting roof water run-off provides an excellent source of water for use in gardens. AquaBank® Garden is designed for those who want a supplementary water supply to maintain their garden during prolonged dry periods. This system is fitted with a manually operated pressure pump, which is suitable for running three garden outlets simultaneously.

In addition to the garden, rainwater is also a safe source of water for flushing toilets, washing clothes, watering gardens and washing cars. AquaBank® House & Garden has an automatically controlled pressure pump which enables the system to cope with some internal as well as external uses around the home. This system is designed to meet the requirements of Sydney Water.

Some residential areas are more prone to fire and/or have low water pressure. Local Councils are requiring some developments to have a supplementary dedicated water supply for fire fighting. AquaBank® Fire Fighter has been developed for fire emergency use and is compatible with the standard equipment used by emergency services.

A dual tank system, AquaBank® House, Garden & Fire is available for those who wish to have a truly versatile system having double the capacity and covering all of the above applications.

The use of concrete tanks overcomes the disadvantages of other commonly used tank construction materials. Concrete has a very long life, it is not susceptible to fire, is less susceptible to flotation, is more stable in windy conditions and has much greater strength. MCP is licensed to produce tanks to Australian Standard AS/NZS 1546.1 Lic SMK 1402 so the concrete tanks used give greater assurance of longevity and dependability.

Single tank AquaBank® can be supplied in sizes from 3300 Litres to 9000 Litres and larger capacities can be obtained by interconnecting tanks. There are configurations for above ground, in-ground or below ground applications. The in-ground and below ground systems save valuable space and reduce visual obstruction. Below ground systems incorporate specially designed lids which include a class D trafficable GATIC inspection cover. Where space saving is a design requirement, these heavy duty lids enable the tanks to be located under carports, garage floors, driveways or gardens. When systems are placed below ground, the access covers for the tank and filter are the only parts of the storage system that need to be accessible.

All components used comply with the relevant Australian Standards to ensure that each system will provide years of reliable service.
