AquaBank® House, Garden & Fire
Australia is the world's driest inhabited continent. Rainwater is a precious and scarce resource. Awareness of the need to make the most efficient use of our water resources is rapidly increasing in our society. State and Local Government bodies are requiring rainwater management programs to be incorporated into the design of new urban developments. While the use of tanks for rainwater collection has long been part of the Australian rural scene, it is now becoming a part of the modern urban environment. AquaBank® is a range of rainwater collection and reuse systems developed by Mittagong Concrete Products (MCP) to meet the specific needs of urban development.
Collecting roof water run off provides a safe source of water for flushing toilets, washing clothes, watering gardens and washing cars, thus conserving our drinking water. Maintaining a dedicated store of water for fire fighting emergencies is also a necessity in some fire prone areas as well as areas with low mains water pressure. AquaBank® House, Garden & Fire offers a complete package for home owners, developers or builders where below ground , in ground or above ground water storage is required.
AquaBank® House, Garden & Fire is available in two nominal sizes, 18000 litres and 12000 litres. The concrete tanks used comply to Australian Standard AS/NZS 1546.1:1998. Each system incorporates two concrete tanks. One is a dedicated water supply fitted with a STORZ outlet for fire fighting emergency use, while the other is fitted with a submersible pressure pump for connection to the desired household outlets. A control panel manages the pressure pump and ensures that this tank does not run dry. During prolonged dry periods the mains supply is used if the water falls below a set level. Below ground and in ground applications are supplied with a 'serpentine' roof water filter while a mosquito proof 20 micron bag filter is provided for above ground applications. The serpentine filter is a unique MCP design to remove both floating material and finer particles from the water entering the tank. Below ground & in ground systems have an internal reflux valve fitted to the outlet to maintain the integrity of the water by preventing vermin or dirty water from entering the tank through the outlet.
The use of concrete tanks overcomes the disadvantages of other commonly used tank construction materials. Concrete has a long life, it is not susceptible to fire, is less susceptible to flotation, is more stable in windy conditions and has much greater strength. AquaBank® House, Garden & Fire can be supplied in one of three configurations for above ground, in ground or below ground applications. The in ground and below ground systems save valuable space and reduce visual obstruction. The below ground system incorporates specially designed lids which include a class D trafficable GATIC inspection cover. Where space saving is a design requirement, these heavy duty lids enable the tanks to be located under carports, garage floors, driveways or gardens. When placed below ground, the access covers for the tanks and filter are the only parts of the storage system that need to be accessible.
AquaBank® House, Garden & Fire is designed to make a valuable contribution during fire fighting emergencies and help to solve the growing problem of water shortages in our urban environment. All components used comply with the relevant standards to ensure that the system will provide years of reliable service.
