AquaBank® House & Garden
Australia is the world's driest inhabited continent. Rainwater is a precious and scarce resource. Awareness of the need to make the most efficient use of our water resources is rapidly increasing in our society. State and Local Government bodies are requiring rainwater management programs to be incorporated into the design of urban developments. While the use of tanks for rainwater collection has long been part of the Australian rural scene, it is now becoming a part of the modern urban environment. Mittagong Concrete Products (MCP) has developed a rainwater collection and reuse system, called AquaBank®,with the flexibility to suit a wide range of urban applications and to comply with the requirements of Sydney Water.
Collecting roof water run-off provides a safe source of water for flushing toilets, washing clothes, watering gardens and washing cars, thus conserving our drinking water. Also by reducing the amount of storm water run off leaving each property, pressure on Municipal drainage systems and local flooding is reduced. AquaBank® House & Garden offers a complete package for home owners, developers or builders where below ground , in ground or above ground water storage is required.
AquaBank® House & Garden is available in three nominal sizes, 9000 litres, 6000 litres and 4000 litres (Sydney Water recommends 5000 litre minimum). The concrete tanks used comply to Australian Standard AS/NZS 1546.1:1998. Each system incorporates a concrete tank fitted with a submersible electric pressure pump, a float switch, a rainwater inlet filter, an electronic control panel and outlet signage. The control panel manages the pressure pump and ensures that the tank does not run dry. During prolonged dry periods the mains supply is used to top-up the tank if the water falls below a set level. Below ground and in ground applications are supplied with a 'serpentine' rain water filter for the inlet and a reflux valve on the overflow. The reflux valve is fitted to the overflow to maintain the integrity of the water by preventing vermin or dirty water from entering the tank through the outlet. The reflux valve is an option on the above ground system. The serpentine filter is a unique MCP design to help remove both floating material and finer particles from entering the tank. A mosquito proof 20 micron bag filter is provided for the lid inlet on above ground applications.
The use of concrete tanks overcomes the disadvantages of other commonly used tank construction materials. Concrete has a long life, it is not susceptible to fire, is less susceptible to flotation, is more stable in windy conditions and has much greater strength. AquaBank® House & Garden can be supplied in one of three configurations for above ground, in-ground or below ground applications. The in-ground and below ground systems save valuable space and reduce visual obstruction. The below ground system incorporates specially designed lids which include a class D trafficable GATIC inspection cover. Where space saving is a design requirement, these heavy duty lids enable the tanks to be located under carports, garage floors, driveways or gardens, etc. When placed below ground, the access covers for the tank and filter are the only parts of the storage system that need to be accessible. The AquaBank® can be out of sight while giving peace of mind.
AquaBank® House & Garden is designed to make a valuable contribution toward solving the growing problem of water shortages in our urban environment. All components used comply with the relevant standards to ensure that the system will provide years of reliable service.
